I’ve been seeing lots of great trailers for upcoming summer movies and I thought I’d share a few with you. My tastes are pretty diverse, I love period dramas, men in spandex and indie flicks. I also have a love-hate relationship with Woody Allen. I happen to love most of his movies but I quite frankly despise him. So, please don’t judge me that I’ve picked one of his flicks to spotlight.
Magic in the Moonlight – Woody Allen
Colin Firth and Emma Stone are the main characters (kinda LOVING this pair up). Emma Stone is an American psychic and Colin Firth is a skeptical British blue blood. Place them in Europe, living amongst the wealthy with tea parties and salons and VOILA…a nice, summer romp.
Belle – Amma Asante
This is a beautiful period drama about a young mixed race heroin, Belle who is raised on a lush estate of her Uncle. It deals with slavery, women’s rights and classism. It is largely based on the real letters and court records of Dido Elizabeth Belle. Not only a historical lesson but a feast for your eyes with all the period fashion.
What if – Michael Dowse
Daniel Radcliffe and Zoe Kazan star in this somewhat predictable romance. But boy does it look cute, and how can you not like the bumbling-sweetness of Daniel Radcliffe. I particularly like that Ms Kazan is not the typical Hollywood bombshell…it looks like a realistically-smart summer romance.
Only Lovers Left Alive – Jim Jarmusch
This one has already hit select theaters but be on the lookout for it on DVD. I missed it in the theaters and was bummed because not only am I a HUGE Jim Jarmusch fan, but I an even BIGGER fan of Tilda Swinton and then throw in Tom (hunky) Hiddleston and…you’ve got movie GOLD! Basically, it’s a romantic-vampire movie…but from a different universe than Twilight.
