I came across a series of photographs via Rookie magazine and couldn’t help but spend a few minutes studying each one. The people in the photos all seemed similar and I was curious to find out how. They were all concert goers. Over a series of three years, photographer James Mollison attended many concerts and took photos of all the concert goers, he’s named this collection of photos, the Disciples. Such COOLNESS!
Bjork — Hammersmith Apollo, London, 10th & 14th April 2008
“Over three years I photographed fans outside different concerts. I am fascinated by the different tribes of people that attend them, and how people emulate celebrity to form their identity.”
Marilyn Manson — Mazda Palace, Milan, 7th June 2005
“As I photographed the project I began to see how the concerts became events for people to come together with surrogate ‘families’, a chance to relive their youth or try and be part of a scene that happened before they were born.”
Morrissey concert, Wembley Arena, London, 8 December 2006.
Katy Perry — Hammersmith Apollo, London, 17th & 18th March 2011
Oasis — Manchester Stadium, Manchester, UK, 3rd July 2005
Sex Pistols — Brixton Academy, London, 8th & 9th November 2007
Lady Gaga- Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, 19th February 2011
