Aging Hair

Have you ever wondered about those unwritten rules in fashion…like how you shouldn’t wear white before Memorial day or after Labor day, or cutting your hair when you’re past fifty?  I could never figure out why the color white got banned for nine months of the year. I think it can actually look nice…white wool pants…it’s the color of snow for goodness sake! I’ve been thinking about the rules of hair lately. I’m in my mid 40’s and have shoulder length hair. I’ve let my hair grow mostly because the first time I got my hair cut and colored in NYC I nearly had a heart attack when I had to whip out my credit card.  Part of me is growing my hair to save money and part of me is growing it because in the back of my mind I can hear my mom’s voice telling me that you can’t have long hair past 50. But why?  I keep seeing photos of women with long grey hair, and I think they look beautiful.  Who came up with these rules anyhow? In my mind I always imagine a bunch of rotund, drunk dudes with beards in the 1700’s, sitting around deciding on words for the dictionary and rules to live by.

I think when it comes to anything in life…it depends on the individual…what makes you happy? Apparently Christie Brinkley, Julianne Moore, Jane Seymour, Jerry Hall, and Andie MacDowell and MANY more are rebels!  Rules…schmules!

Coming soon…to go grey…or not to go grey…
