I REALLY love when old becomes new again…especially when it comes to hotels or homes. All the memories are trapped inside the walls, creating a beautiful mixture of vintage and modern. Spitbank fort in Portsmouth harbor, Britain was commissioned by Lord Palmerston in the late 19th century to defend the British naval fleets from Napoleon the III‘s army. It lay dormant for 150 years before Mike Clare of Clarenco snatched it up (and two others) and transformed it into an eight bedroom luxury hotel. It all seems so James Bond to me. Okay, close your eyes and dream…that you’re swimming in the outdoor “hot pool”, then waltzing off to a spa treatment, followed by a game of billiards, and a gourmet meal, ending the day with starlit drinks outside surrounded by the warmth of the outdoor fire pit.
