Sword and Plough

On days when the world seems to be topsy turvy…full of bombings, explosions and manhunts…it’s nice to hear some good news. This is indeed GREAT news. How do you not instantly fall in love with a brand of bags that 1) are made from recycled army goods 2) provide jobs to veterans, and 3) are well made and STYLIN!  Emily Nunez, an intelligence officer for the Army is the creator of Sword and Plough. She came up with this BRILLIANT idea and then registered with Kickstarter (a website that promotes inventions, and peeps with ideas) for funding and the response was AMAZING! She funded her project immediately.

Due to Emily’s deployments overseas, she relies on her sister Betsy to keep things running smoothly. What I especially like about Sword and Plough is knowing that each bag and or item has a history. The cloth itself is either an old parachute, or tent…each with a story in itself, and then it’s paired with leather sourced locally in Colorado and stitched by veterans.

It is estimated that in five years the project will recycle 750,000lbs of military surplus and create 600 new veteran jobs.

The phrase ‘sword and plough’ originates from the biblical phrase ‘to beat swords into ploughshares’, which means to refrain from violence and turn to peaceful solutions.
